The One Bag a Week Declutter Method
Not a weekend purge that ends in six garbage bags at the curb. One bag, once a week, sorted the right way before it leaves the house.

Why slow decluttering beats the weekend purge
A big one-day purge usually ends the same way: exhausted, overwhelmed, and shoving everything into black trash bags because sorting it properly feels like too much on top of everything else. One bag a week removes that pressure. It's small enough to actually sort well, and steady enough that a year of it clears out more than most weekend purges ever do.
The sorting decision, made simple
Every item gets asked the same three questions, in order. The first "yes" wins.
Where Does It Go?
Why $20 is the cutoff: below that, the time spent photographing, listing, and shipping usually isn't worth it compared to a quick donation drop-off. Above it, a few minutes of listing effort is worth real money back in your pocket.
Where the bag actually goes
Sellable items ($20+): list on eBay. Furniture, electronics, tools, and name-brand items hold value well.
Good condition, low value: donate to a local thrift store or shelter — someone gets to skip buying new, and you skip the landfill.
Worn out or broken: check if it's recyclable before it hits the trash. Textiles in particular often have dedicated fabric recycling drop-offs even when they're too worn to donate.
Filling in the gap you just made?
If decluttering reveals something you actually need to replace, check secondhand first.

Missing a week doesn't undo the progress. Even doing this twice a month adds up to a genuinely decluttered home by the end of the year — sorted properly instead of dumped all at once.
